Lithium Across Borders

I am currently in the early stages of work on a book project that will trace lithium extraction from the salt flats of Jujuy in Northern Argentina, where mining companies and local governments are polluting ancestral indigenous lands, to the United States, where lithium is essential for electric vehicles and a critical resource to secure in the "New Cold War" against China. At the moment, this project will take shape in two ways: through attending the Republican and Democratic National Conventions in 2024, to write an extensive essay on Latin America's presence in the US political imagination; and through a series of pieces reporting on actualities in Jujuy and connecting them to broader changes transpiring in Argentina in the aftermath of far-right "anarcho-capitalist" Javier Milei's election. You can find a more detailed description of what this project entails in my GoFund Me.
